Alperen Sengun Gets Named Finalist for Balkan Athlete of the Year
This long-standing annual poll is determined by national news agencies throughout the Balkans, with Anadolu Agency participating in the process.
Sengun secured his spot on the shortlist after playing a decisive role in Türkiye’s journey to the silver medal at the 2025 European Championship, further cementing his reputation as one of the region’s standout athletes.
Other finalists in the 2025 poll include David Popovici (swimming, Romania), Distria Krasniqi (judo, Kosovo), Emmanouil Karalis (pole vault, Greece), Zrinka Ljutic (alpine skiing, Croatia), Nikola Jokic (basketball, Serbia), Stefanos Douskos (rowing, Greece), Giannis Antetokounmpo (basketball, Greece), Aleksandar Nikolov (volleyball, Bulgaria), and Karlos Nasar (weightlifting, Bulgaria).
In total, 47 athletes were nominated this year. The winner and complete results will be revealed at a ceremony in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Feb. 16.
